Meeting Location and Directions
For the Block on the Month, follow the link on left. President's MessageEllen BeeberWelcome to the Nutmeg Quilters Guild!! Our September meeting started out with a bang….or maybe I should say a “shake” from the President’s Turkish dancing scarf!! If you weren’t there, you missed a ‘one-time only’ performance!! Heartfelt thanks go out to our Guest Lecturer Michele O’Neil Kincaid. Her trunk show of the “Traveling Quilter” got a lot of creative juices started. Her “Santa Stops Here” workshop on Thursday was an intimate gathering full of lots of laughs and Christmas cheer, even in the humid weather!! Stay tuned to see the results from that workshop in November. Even I might have a finished wall hanging by then…..hey, it could happen!! In light of the devastation in New Orleans, it was motioned and voted on that we send the rest of the 28 Community service quilts to the Hurricane victims. Since the general meeting it was brought to my attention that as of Saturday, September 17th, these quilts were part of a tractor-trailer truckload going to Pass Christian, Mississippi!! Now talk about great timing!! Thanks go out to Eleanor Tropsa for making the suggestion and Trish and Angela for making this all happens. Please come to the Hands-on Meeting on October 12th to help make more quilts to comfort those who need them most during their time of rebuilding in New Orleans. Also at this meeting there will be a table set aside to make Christmas decorations for this year’s Anne’s Place Christmas Tree. The theme this year is “Trim’s & Pins”. We still need a need a Quilt Raffle Corrdinator. We have a design for the next quilt, but we need someone to obtain the necessary permits, oversee the making and sales of the tickets, display the quilts at different venues and award the final prize. and a Programs team. You can always do these jobs with friends, so please think about putting together a small team and take on one of these positions. You will always get a lot out of the efforts you put in and you can invite anyone you want to speak at the meetings!! There is a lot going on this month, so please read the newsletter from front to back and don’t miss a thing. Here’s hoping to see you all at our November meeting where our guest lecturer will be Ruth Powers discussing “Where do Ideas come from?”. Until then….Happy Quilting. Ellen Beeber
Hands-on-Meeting: In an effort to make the Hand-On-meeting attractive to a wider range of members, we will have different projects to work on: One area will be set to make more quilts to comfort those who need them most during their time of rebuilding in New Orleans. If you need more information you can email contact Trish palmer (tpquilt@aol.com ) or Angela Liptack (wwell@aol.com).
There will also be a table set aside to make Christmas decorations for this year’s Anne’s Place Christmas Tree. The theme this year is “Trim’s & Pins”.
We can also start on the new raffle quilt. At this printing, I am not quite sure whether we will have kits to start to work on, or if we will prepare kits. In any case, if you have not participated on a raffle quilt before, this is the best time to find out who much fun it is.
And of course, if you only want to come to work on your own project, could not it be a better time with all this expertise around all at once?
Community Service: Guild Quilts Go to Passion Christian, MI On Saturday, September 17th, 28 quilts made by our guild members were loaded into a tractor-trailer truck and sent from Ridgefield, Connecticut, to Pass Christian, Mississippi. Guild members voted at the September meeting to give all the charity quilts we had on hand to Ridgefield Responds. In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, the town of Ridgefield offered to "adopt" the town of Pass Christian and, in an effort named "Ridgefield Responds," organized a town-wide effort to send goods and money to assist the town in recovering from the storm's devastating effects. Thanks to everyone who made quilts to donate. What a great feeling! Please help us to replenish our supply of charity quilts. Join us at the October 12th Hands-On Meeting (Ridgefield Recreation Center, doors open at 6:30 p.m.) to help us prepare donated fabric or to work on a quilt. Look forward to seeing you there!
