Meeting Info |
Meetings are held at The
Ridgefield Rec Center Nutmeg Quilters Guild meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday. However, check your Newsletter. Once in awhile we may change the meeting date to accommodate a special speaker. When you arrive for a meeting, please check in at the membership desk, which is staffed with volunteer guild members. This helps us to keep track of attendance. The Ridgefield Rec Center is located right on Route 35 in Ridgefield. Coming south from Route 7 onto Route 35, take a right before Copp's Hill Plaza. There is a sign announcing the Recreation Center; it is a long driveway, and as you enter, the Rec Center is the one on the left. Coming from the south, you can either drive through the town of Ridgefield on Route 35 or stay on Route 7 until you reach Route 35 at the Red Lion Restaurant. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and there are always door raffles, an extensive lending library of quilt books, patterns, and how-to videos, a lively program, refreshments, a vendor from one of the many local quilt shops, and a Show-And-Tell of members' quilts. Highlights of our meetings are as follows: VENDOR Each meeting features a different quilt store, which brings a selection of products for sale. Members and guests enjoy the opportunity to browse through and purchase the latest fabrics, books, patterns and notions -- it is always interesting to see what is being offered. LIBRARY The guild has an extensive library of quilting-related books, magazines, videos, patterns, etc. Members are allowed to check out up to four items. For videos and particularly popular items, there is a waiting list and a sign-up sheet. Books are to be returned at the next meeting, and a fine is levied for overdue items. Occasionally the library has old quilting magazines for sale. Library revenues are used to purchase new books for the library. MEETING RAFFLE There is a raffle of several quilt-related items at each meeting. The prizes are on display in the front hall, and there are Guild members selling tickets, which are 50 cents each. Please find a ticket seller and take a chance. ENTRY BLOCK Each month the Guild newsletter -- the DisPatch -- features the pattern and instructions for an "entry block." Members make as many blocks to this pattern as they wish, and attach to each block a slip with their name on it. As members register, blocks are collected and put into sets, and the names are put in a raffle box. During the meeting names are drawn from among those who have contributed the blocks, with the winners each receiving enough blocks to complete an average size quilt top. GUEST SPEAKER Each meeting has a major program -- usually either a speaker or a hands-on program. We try to have speakers on a wide variety of quilting-related topics. Information on upcoming programs and speakers can be found in The DisPatch. Your suggestions for future programs are welcome -- please contact the Programs chairman. SHOW AND TELL We end each meeting with Show and Tell, when members share with the rest of the Guild quilts that they may have just finished or acquired. This is the moment in the meeting when you really get inspired! THE DISPATCH is the Guild Newsletter, which carries information about all activities sponsored by the Nutmeg Quilters Guild. It is mailed to all members during the even months - i.e. in those months when we do not meet. The DisPatch contains information about all classes, speakers, trips, raffles etc., and Board members' names and phone numbers are listed. Please feel free to write to or phone any of us with suggestions or comments - both positive and negative.
