For the Block on the Month, follow the link on left. President's MessageEllen BeeberWelcome to the Nutmeg Quilters Guild!! I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Holiday Season and in January will be ready to get back into the “quilt” of things so to speak!! Before we get started into the business side of things, I’d like to take the time to thank Angela, Sam, Marlene and Betsy for taking such good care of the November’s Guest Speaker Ruth Powers. By the sounds of her thank you note that she sent to the Guild, she had a great time meeting all of us and touring all the local quilt shops! Thank you once again Ladies for all your help. I’d also like to thank Amy Trompetter and Terri Jannelli for making our 2005 Raffle Quilt possible. The winner of this beautiful quilt was Aileen Egan of Ridgefield, CT. We made one lady very happy that night!! As you all know by now there is no Hands-On Meeting in December. This will start up again in February and will give you more time to work on Community quilts and Show-and-Tell projects for January!! ;) And now for something completely different, we will be having a Pot Luck Dinner at our January Meeting. If the weather permits us, this will give us a chance to really meet each other, eat great food, trade quilting tips and secrets and share lots of laughs. And oh yeah….we’ll have our regular business meeting too (you didn’t think you all would get away without hearing me gab did you??) along with the meeting raffle, door prizes and of course the infamous Show-and-Tell. It’s not too late to sign up to bring a main dish, side dish or a dessert. Our workshop will be presented by our own Annie Dervin-Jundt, showing us how to make quilted greeting cards. This should be a fun way to spend a winter afternoon. I’m still looking for a few good women to help out with Programs for next year. If anyone could give a few hours of their time to send out contracts or to help out where needed, please give me a call, it would be greatly appreciated. There is a lot going on this month, so please read the newsletter from front to back so you don’t miss anything. Here’s hoping that Old Man Winter will be kind to us in January to bring us together for our meeting and Potluck Dinner!! Until then….Happy Quilting. Ellen Beeber
Community Service: More quilts in the works: Nearly 30 people turned out for our October hands-on meeting to cut fabrics, assemble kits for lap-size quilts in the rail fence pattern, and start sewing. At the November meeting, we handed out 10 of the kits and received some finished quilts back, ready to be given to charities. But we have LOTS more fabric (and 10 prepared kits), so we invite all guild members to come to our next hands-on meeting (Wednesday, February 8, 7:00 p.m., Ridgefield Recreation Center) and help us make even more. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm, a rotary cutter and mat and/or a sewing machine. Storage needed: Trish Palmer has managed Community Service's large stash of fabric and a growing supply of quilts for many months, but her home can no longer be the committee's storage site. She is looking for guild members to volunteer to take one or more of five easy-to-carry plastic containers home, starting in January. If you can help, please call Trish prior to the January 11th Potluck Supper, so she knows how many containers to bring to transfer to your care.
